Our Story
Bathurst HumanKind Network is a community‑rooted, volunteer‑powered non‑profit organization and registered charity dedicated to preventing homelessness and housing loss throughout the Bathurst region. We play a critical gap‑filling and systems‑bridging role by reaching people who are underserved, disconnected, or excluded from traditional services. We meet people where they are — in encampments, on back roads, in temporary shelters, and in community spaces — providing mobile outreach, crisis support, and navigation to housing, healthcare, income, and essential services.
Our work is grounded in a Housing First philosophy, strengthened by a trauma‑informed approach, and built on early intervention. We operate at the intersection of multiple systems — housing, healthcare, income support, justice, and social services — helping individuals navigate fragmented structures while improving coordination across the regional service landscape. Our focus is on the wrap‑around supports that make housing sustainable: access to healthcare, income stability, transportation, harm reduction, and strong community connection.
We support people who often fall through systemic cracks by providing hands‑on assistance with court accompaniment, hospital support, access to income resources, obtaining identification, landlord mediation, housing loss prevention, and housing navigation. We also assist with moving and setting up safe, dignified living spaces, address food insecurity, support mental health and addiction needs, and connect individuals to detox and rehabilitation resources. Our role is not to duplicate services, but to bridge gaps, reduce barriers, and ensure people do not get lost between systems. Every step of our work is rooted in trust, compassion, and a commitment to long‑term housing stability.
In areas of the Bathurst region where services are limited, fragmented, or difficult to access, we serve as a front‑line connector and regional safety net, bringing hope, safety, and life‑saving resources directly to those who need them most. This role is especially critical during the harsh winter months, when gaps in services can quickly become life‑threatening.
Together with our community, partners, donors, and volunteers, we are strengthening regional coordination and building a compassionate, barrier‑free network that closes service gaps, supports resilience, and ensures everyone in the Bathurst region has the chance to be safe, supported, and housed.
